Remodeling Your Home to Help out
0I recently had to move home to help my parents through a difficult spot. I love my family more than anything in this world, and would consequently do absolutely anything for them. Which is how I was able to pack everything up and move from my bustling lifestyle in one of the busiest cities in the country to settle down and live in the detached apartment bedroom of my parents’ farm in rural Colorado.
It has certainly been a difficult adjustment for me, but it has been worth every minute. My dad had just undergone surgery for his back and was having a hard time adjusting to work again. I offered to help with the household chores as well as pulling in some money to help keep the house afloat until Dad was back on his feet.
Once I was back in the groove of things, I couldn’t believe how quickly I had become a city girl. My hands were soft and uncalloused, and helping the parents out around the house made me whiny and disagreeable when I couldn’t count on the maid to do.
The real moment of truth came when Dad said he had planned a house renovation to bring everything up-to-date in and around the house. He was too tired to finish telling me about all of his plans, so I took it upon myself to make sure his vision was realized.
The first thing I wanted to do was redo the bathroom, with all of its old tile and cabinets that were all but falling apart when you try to open them. So I found a place that offered custom cabinets in Denver, and it was hard not to fall in love with so many of the wonderful designs.
Next, I really wanted to be able to do a Denver kitchen remodel. My mom spends so much time in the kitchen, I wanted her to feel comfortable and happy cooking and preparing food for my dad. I found some really beautiful kitchen cabinets and tile for the floor. Now everything looks amazing.
